Trump Promises Serious Retaliation Following Deadly ISIS Attack
On Saturday, President Trump declared that there would be “very serious retaliation” after a recent ISIS attack in Syria that claimed the lives of two U.S. soldiers and a military interpreter.
Reports indicate that the ambush was executed by a lone gunman from the Islamic State, causing injuries to three others. Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth confirmed that those responsible for the attack were neutralized by allied forces.
“If you target Americans anywhere in the world, you will spend the rest of your short, anxious life knowing that America will hunt you down and eliminate you without mercy,” Hegseth stated.
President Trump conveyed his condolences on Truth Social, saying, “We grieve the loss of three heroic Americans—two soldiers and a civilian interpreter in Syria. Our thoughts are also with the three wounded soldiers, who have been found safe. This attack signifies ISIS’s threat to the U.S. in a dangerously chaotic region of Syria.”
He went on to mention that Syrian President Ahmed al-Shalah was extremely upset by this incident and promised immediate and severe retaliation, as noted by Fox News.
“This attack was directed against us and against Syria. We honor their sacrifice and keep their parents and loved ones in our prayers,” Trump expressed to reporters outside the White House.
According to Defense Department Chief Press Secretary Sean Parnell, the attack occurred in the town of Palmyra while the soldiers were engaged with key leaders in ongoing anti-ISIS operations. Names of the fallen soldiers and further details will be kept confidential until family members have been notified. The situation is currently under active investigation.
There are roughly 900 U.S. troops stationed in Syria, and the recent attack marks the first deadly encounter since the collapse of the Assad regime.
