Drunken hedge-fund heir overturns golf cart at $15M Hamptons property, injuring friends with a broken back and head wounds: lawsuit

Golf Cart Incident Results in Serious Injuries

A young man from a wealthy family is facing legal action after a reckless golf cart ride led to serious injuries for two of his friends. Garrett Huff, now 23, reportedly flipped the family’s golf cart at a $15 million estate in Southampton, which the lawsuit describes as a “dangerous stunt.”

According to court documents, Huff was hanging out on the beach with friends John Mascari and Heather Daley, drinking and playing games when they decided to take one last ride on the sand in August 2024. However, things took a turn when Huff accelerated unexpectedly, sending the three-row golf cart speeding into a roundabout.

“In just 10 seconds, we were going as fast as it could go,” Mascari recounted. “I remember feeling the cart lift off the ground.”

The cart ultimately flipped, throwing both Mascari and Daley onto the sidewalk, leaving them unconscious, as claimed in the Suffolk County Supreme Court lawsuit against Huff and his parents.

Mascari, now 24, suffered a fractured vertebra and a concussion, while Daley woke up to find herself bleeding from her head. The scene remains vivid for Mascari, who recalled seeing Daley in a troubling position and fearing the worst.

Both were rushed to the hospital, where Daley needed five staples in her head and now deals with crippling migraines. She expressed horror at the sight of Mascari lying still, fearing he might not survive.

Garrett Huff’s father, Craig, founded a private equity firm, and his mother, Tracy, made headlines for lavish spending. The lawsuit alleges that the Huffs were aware of their son’s “reckless behavior” with golf carts, especially while drinking, citing a past incident where he injured a friend’s hand during a similar episode.

The lawsuit further claims that the Huffs abandoned the family golf cart after the incident. Attorney William A. Brewer III, representing Mascari and Daley, emphasized that this was not merely an accident but rather a consequence of ongoing negligent behavior.

The Huffs have yet to respond to requests for comment.
