Trump’s Reassurance to Jewish Community After Attack in Australia

President Donald Trump reached out to American Jews celebrating Hanukkah, assuring them of their safety following the recent attack at Bondi Beach. “Celebrate proudly. Be proud of who you are,” he stated in a conversation with media on Sunday.

This reassurance came after Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese labeled the gunfire at the Bondi Beach Hanukkah celebration as a “targeted attack on Jewish Australians.” At a press briefing, Albanese expressed that “An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on all Australians,” emphasizing the collective grief felt across the nation. She firmly remarked, “There is no place for this hatred, this violence, this terrorism in our country. Let me be clear: We will eradicate it.”

Meanwhile, police reported that at least 11 people lost their lives and many others were injured in the incident.

In a related government meeting in Dimona, Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mentioned that he had warned Albanese in a letter back in August about the dangers of Australia’s policies fostering anti-Semitism. He criticized her for not taking sufficient measures against the increasing anti-Semitic sentiments, suggesting that such inaction only stoked hostility toward Jewish communities.

Netanyahu acknowledged the bravery of a man who intervened during the attack, noting that he turned out to be a Muslim who courageously prevented further violence. “We must act,” he stressed, arguing that history favors those who demonstrate strength rather than hesitation.

Yael Eckstein, president of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, described the attack as a wake-up call for Jewish communities everywhere. She pointed out that terrorism knows no borders, affecting not just Jews but Christians as well: “The answer to this darkness is light,” she proclaimed during an interview.
