Philip Rivers Returns to the Field with a Touchdown
Philip Rivers marked his return by throwing a touchdown pass in the first half of a game against the Seattle Seahawks. This moment came after a long absence, precisely 1,800 days since his last touchdown pass during a playoff game on January 9, 2021, against the Buffalo Bills. Though he tossed two touchdowns then, the Colts faced elimination from the playoffs that day.
With many believing his career was essentially over, Rivers was called back into action by the Indianapolis Colts. He started the game on Sunday, where he successfully connected with Josh Downs for a touchdown in the second quarter, bringing the score to 13-6 as they headed into halftime. Rivers completed 10 out of 16 passes, gathering 82 passing yards, with a notable 17-yard run to end the half to Tyler Warren.
Remarkably, Rivers’ return seems almost like a fairy tale. Just being back on the field felt like a significant achievement, given the circumstances. The Colts were in dire straits, trying to salvage their playoff hopes after their starter, Daniel Jones, suffered a season-ending injury. Heading into the matchup with Seattle, Indianapolis was struggling, having lost three games in a row and four of their last five.
The 44-year-old quarterback boasts 63,440 passing yards and 421 touchdowns across his career, predominantly with the Chargers during 16 of his 17 seasons.
