After spending almost $50,000 in Puerto Rico on a luxury hotel, an upscale restaurant, and attending a Bad Bunny concert, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is facing scrutiny. Critics are questioning if her socialist image is genuine or merely a marketing strategy since she seems to enjoy the lifestyle of the elite she often criticizes.
Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer remarked on Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign finance activities, calling her a “hypocrite.” He recalled the designer dress she wore to the Met Gala, which featured the slogan “Tax the Rich.” It was custom-made, not something off the rack, which adds to the perception of her double standards.
Spicer stated that Ocasio-Cortez and her like-minded colleagues often speak out against capitalism but don’t hesitate to take advantage of its benefits. He mentioned their tendency to preach about carbon emissions while using private flights and critiqued their wealth accumulation through congressional roles.
Recently, a campaign finance report uncovered that Ocasio-Cortez expended over $15,000 on two luxurious hotels in San Juan, coinciding with a trip to see Bad Bunny. Videos from her August visit showed her making appearances in a housing development and having fun at the concert.
Republican strategist Matt Gorman commented, “AOC couldn’t be a genuine socialist without irresponsibly spending other people’s money.” He noted a pattern among leftist politicians who claim to represent the working class but enjoy lavish lifestyles funded by others.
Another Republican candidate, Michael Carbonara, echoed this sentiment. He pointed out that while Ocasio-Cortez criticizes the wealthy, her own spending habits starkly contrast her public statements, implying that her behavior is contradictory to her professed values.
In response, the National Republican Congressional Committee labeled Ocasio-Cortez’s actions as a prime example of hypocrisy.
