DHS Names 17 Illegal Immigrants Arrested Over the Weekend
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has disclosed the identities of 17 undocumented immigrants who were detained over the weekend. These individuals are now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and have prior convictions for serious crimes including murder and the sexual exploitation of minors.
This announcement is part of the DHS’s “Worst of the Worst” initiative, designed to spotlight undocumented immigrants with serious felony records. Tricia McLaughlin, an assistant secretary for Homeland Security, noted, “While many Americans were enjoying Christmas gatherings and the first day of Hanukkah, ICE agents were out there risking their lives to apprehend some of the most dangerous individuals.” She emphasized that this holiday season brings some relief, as these offenders have been removed from the communities.
The list of convictions is alarming. For example, Thai Lol, an illegal immigrant from Thailand, was convicted of second-degree murder. Benevenuto Walter López Alonso, from Guatemala, has a conviction for the sexual exploitation of a minor. Yovany Dominguez Herrera, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was found guilty of lewd conduct with a child under 14. Meanwhile, Chi Ying from China faced charges related to money laundering and prostitution involving a minor. Patricia Judith Diaz-Angel, a 16-year-old from Guatemala, was also included in this group.
All of these individuals had committed their crimes while residing in the United States.
Interestingly, their arrests followed a recent operation in Los Angeles where over 10,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended, despite violent protests involving attacks on law enforcement with rocks and Molotov cocktails.
Throughout the summer, immigration agents faced escalating violence across Los Angeles. Criticism from Democrats has been directed towards DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and the broader Trump administration strategy of handling illegal immigration.
Noem and her administration have remained steadfast in their commitment to deporting millions of migrants who crossed the border illegally under President Biden’s tenure. In a recent advertisement for Homeland Security, Noem remarked, “If you follow the law, you will find opportunity. If you break the law, there will be consequences.”
DHS has consistently highlighted its efforts to apprehend dangerous illegal immigrants, even launching a new public arrest database recently. The agency announced the creation of a “Worst of the Worst” website last week, aimed at sharing information about violent criminals and pedophiles living illegally in the U.S.
