Jake Tapper stands by his Trump age reporting after overlooking Biden

Tapper Addresses Age Concerns Around Trump, Reflects on Past Coverage of Biden

During a recent segment, CNN anchor Jake Tapper expressed that he’s now discussing President Donald Trump’s age partly because he feels that, as journalists, they may have downplayed the age-related issues of former President Joe Biden when he was in office.

On his show, he responded to host Tommy Vieter from “Pod Save America,” who questioned how the media should handle Trump’s occasional moments of fatigue or missteps. Vieter pondered, “When does it become too noticeable?”

Tapper noted, “We discuss it frequently. This has always been the case. And, you know, I think that because we’ve witnessed Biden’s situation, we might not have probed as thoroughly as we should have back then. It’s certainly relevant for any president, particularly one in their 80s.”

In his own commentary, Tapper critiqued a Truth Social post that dismissed concerns about Trump “slowing down.” He insisted that providing accurate reports on Trump’s aging isn’t treasonous or incendiary.

Additionally, Tapper raised questions about the White House’s explanations for visible bruises on Trump’s hands, suggesting they could be the result of him “literally shaking hands all the time.” He highlighted that the White House had previously offered a similar explanation for an earlier bruise. With Trump being 79, he suggested that there is likely more to the story regarding his health—otherwise, why would he need an MRI?

As he promoted his book, “Original Sin: The Decline of the Biden Presidency, Its Cover-Up, and the Disastrous Choice to Run Again,” Tapper admitted having inadequately covered Biden’s mental decline during his presidency. Reflecting back, he mentioned, “I think some of the criticism directed at me is valid. Sure, I can’t speak for others, but looking back, I realize I addressed these issues, but not enough. I see it now with a sense of humility.”
