Obamas intended to get together with Rob Reiner and his wife on the night the couple was murdered

Tragic Passing of Filmmaker Rob Reiner and His Wife

The Obamas were set to meet director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle, on the evening she was reportedly killed by their son, Nick Reiner, at their Los Angeles residence.

“We were supposed to meet them that night, and then we heard the news,” Michelle Obama shared during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Host Jimmy Kimmel asked for her thoughts on the tragic event involving their friends.

The former First Lady expressed disbelief upon learning that the renowned filmmaker and his wife, who had been friends for many years, had lost their lives.

“Let me just say this: Rob and Michelle, unlike some others, were two of the most genuinely decent and courageous people you could know,” she remarked, referencing comments made by former President Donald Trump about Reiner’s passing that implied he was “crazy” and “struggling.”

“They weren’t crazy; they were passionate. They always put action on hold at times when courage was lacking. They truly cared about their family.”

In the wake of the Reiners’ deaths, former President Obama released a statement honoring their legacy.

“Michelle and I are heartbroken over the passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife Michelle. Rob’s contributions to film and television have given us some of the story’s most cherished moments,” he expressed on X.

“Beneath each story, he conveyed a belief in human goodness and a commitment to putting that belief into practice. Together, they lived purpose-driven lives and will be remembered for their values and the many they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.”

“They cared about this country and were advocates for fairness and equity, and that’s unwavering truth. I know them well,” Michelle added.

Rob Reiner, 78, known for iconic films like “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally,” and “This is Spinal Tap,” was found dead along with his 68-year-old wife in their Brentwood home on Sunday afternoon.

Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was apprehended and charged with murder.

Romy, their 28-year-old daughter, who discovered their parents’ bodies, described Nick to investigators as “dangerous” and suggested he should be a suspect, sources informed the Post.

Nick has a history of battling drug addiction and mental health issues and was reportedly placed on suicide watch following his arrest.

He is currently being held on a bail of $4 million.
