Michelle Jenneke Engaged to Alex Beck
Australian hurdler Michelle Jenneke has shared the exciting news of her engagement to athlete Alex Beck, a relationship that they had kept under wraps.
The couple made the announcement through a joint Instagram post, which included the caption, “8 and a half years in the making,” along with heart and engagement ring emojis.
In the pictures they posted, Jenneke appears overjoyed, proudly displaying her ring and hugging Beck. It’s worth noting that fans were taken aback by the announcement, as neither athlete had previously posted about each other on social media.
Many fellow athletes rushed to congratulate the happy couple. For instance, Australian high jump world champion Nicola Ollislagers extended her wishes, saying, “Congratulations,” while Canadian pole vaulter Alisha Newman chimed in with similar sentiments.
Beck, at 33, participated in the Tokyo Olympics, achieving a personal best of 45.54 seconds in his heat, although he narrowly missed advancing to the semifinals. His athletic accomplishments also include participation in the World Athletics Championships, Commonwealth Games, and Oceania Athletics Championships.
Jenneke, a two-time Olympian, first gained widespread attention for her viral pre-race dance routine. At 32, she is recognized as Australia’s second-fastest 100m hurdler after Sally Pearson, having placed sixth in her heat at the Rio Olympics and facing challenges at the Paris Games, where she fell over a hurdle.
She later revealed that a severe hamstring tear, caused by heatstroke, led to her fall at the Paris Olympics. After narrowly missing the qualifying mark for this year’s world championships by just 0.08 seconds, she returned to the track and recently set a new personal best in long jump.
In her social media update about her long jump success, she expressed her pride, saying, “Sidequest accomplished! I set myself a pre-season goal to break the 6 meter barrier and I achieved it in style with a huge PB of 6.32 meters!!!” She added her appreciation for her coach while humorously reminding herself of her hurdling roots.
