Mike Francesa says Trump's politics divide Mets stars Lindor and Nimmo

Mets’ Clubhouse Tensions Linked to Trump, Says Francesa

Mike Francesa, a well-known figure in New York sports radio, discussed on his podcast how differing opinions on President Donald Trump have reportedly caused a rift within the Mets’ clubhouse.

On Tuesday, Francesa pointed to a conflict between shortstop Francisco Lindor and outfielder Brandon Nimmo, who was recently traded to the Texas Rangers, as being politically motivated. However, he didn’t specify which player held which political view.

“My understanding is that the situation between Nimmo and Lindor had political ties and involved Trump,” he mentioned. “One player liked Trump; the other didn’t.”

Francesa elaborated, saying, “So there was a divide regarding Trump between Nimmo and Lindor. It may sound strange, but things can get crazier.”

The Mets have yet to respond to Francesa’s comments.

Nimmo was traded to the Rangers on November 23, following his decision to waive a no-trade clause in his substantial contract. This move is just one part of a chaotic offseason for the Mets, who also lost key players like first baseman Pete Alonso and closer Edwin Diaz. All three players were crucial to the team’s efforts in the 2022 and 2024 playoff runs, forming a core since 2020.

The Rangers traded second baseman Marcus Semien to acquire Nimmo. Currently, Nimmo, who is 32, is coming off a strong season with a career-high of 25 home runs, while Semien, at 35, managed just 15 home runs for the upcoming season.

This offseason has already seen many high-profile free agents signing contracts, leaving notable players like Kyle Tucker, Cody Bellinger, Beau Bichette, and Framber Valdez still on the market.
