Trump Designates Venezuelan Regime as Terrorist Organization

President Donald Trump has ramped up U.S. actions against the government in Venezuela, especially after troubling military incidents involving ships linked to drug trafficking. In a bold statement, he labeled the regime a foreign terrorist organization and announced a blockade of oil tankers.

In his announcement, he declared, “I order a complete and total blockade of all licensed oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela.” This marks a significant escalation, as he also noted that Venezuela is now “completely surrounded by the largest armada in South American history.” He expressed confidence that this military presence would expand and stated that the consequences for Venezuela would be unprecedented until they compensate for assets they previously seized from the U.S.

Trump drew attention to the accusations against the Venezuelan government, alleging that they misappropriated oil revenues to fund severe crimes, including murder and human trafficking. He stated, “The Venezuelan regime has been designated a foreign terrorist organization for several reasons, such as the theft of assets from our nation, along with terrorism and drug trafficking.”

On Wednesday, the president noted the military’s recent seizure of an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi shared video footage of this event, highlighting that the vessel was warned it was carrying oil that had been sanctioned from Iran.

“We just seized a tanker off the coast of Venezuela,” Trump commented to the media, emphasizing its size and significance. “It’s a very large tanker, in fact, the largest ever captured.”

Democrats and other critics are challenging the administration’s approach, suggesting it might be a distraction from issues such as the release of the Epstein files.

Earlier this month, Trump had given Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro an ultimatum: step down or expect further U.S. actions. While reports indicate Maduro contemplated resigning, he wanted to maintain military control, and ultimately, a deal was not reached.

Notably, the Venezuelan regime has reportedly placed a bounty of $50 million on Maduro’s head.
