Jalen Brunson praises Knicks' teammates in NBA Cup victory

During a Prime Video broadcast on Tuesday night, Jalen Brunson couldn’t contain his excitement after the Knicks’ victory in the NBA Cup Finals, and inadvertently let a profanity slip. Brunson, who was named the Cup MVP, was discussing his teammates’ performance in the game against the Spurs, which the Knicks won 124-113 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“OG Anunoby, Tyler Korek, Mitchell Robinson, Jordan Clarkson,” he started, before adding, “They played badly tonight. We can’t win this game without them.” He quickly corrected himself, smoothing over the tense moment. “We can’t win with this,” he clarified. “They played a lot tonight.”

In this match, Brunson scored 25 points and was instrumental in the Knicks’ journey to the NBA Cup. He ended the season averaging an impressive 33.2 points and 5.8 assists, shooting 53 percent overall and 46 percent from beyond the arc.

When it came to the MVP voting, Brunson was the clear favorite, receiving nearly unanimous support. Interestingly, the only dissent came from KWTV sports journalist Steve McGee.

After celebrating the victory with his teammates, Brunson made a point to shake hands with the Spurs players, reflecting a sense of sportsmanship. The MVP accolade adds to Brunson’s ambitions for the season, as he hopes to contend for the overall season MVP.

Former NBA player DeMarcus Cousins even weighed in on his performance, stating on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” “He deserves to be mentioned in this MVP race. He carries the Knicks team on his back… He does it every season.”
