Kamala Harris Critiques Democratic Party in Recent Interview

In a discussion with former Democratic National Committee Chair Jamie Harrison, former Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her belief that the Democratic Party is “stuck in the past.” She suggested that party leaders aren’t engaging “in good faith.”

During the podcast “At Our Table,” Harris reflected on whether Democrats are playing it too safe with their messaging and policies. “In some ways we’re stuck in the past,” she stated. She emphasized the need for more authentic and relatable conversations, saying, “We have to talk about this moment.”

She also pointed out that embracing new perspectives is crucial. “There are voices that are perhaps new to this space but want to say something important,” Harris remarked, stressing that disregarding them isn’t a productive approach.

Harrison chimed in, mentioning that party members should welcome those with differing opinions. “Purity tests within our party are very harmful,” he noted. He argued that being a big tent party means not dismissing individuals over singular disagreements. “If we find common ground on 75% or 85%, let’s focus on that,” he added, recognizing that people are complex and multi-dimensional.

Currently, Harris is promoting her memoir, “107 Days,” which recounts her 2024 presidential campaign experience. She recently shared with The New York Times that she sees herself as a historical figure. “I understand the focus is on things like ’28,” she said. “But there will be a marble bust of me in Congress. I am a historical figure, just like any vice president before me.”

Reflecting on her tour, she remarked, “Thousands of people are coming to hear my voice, thousands of people. Everywhere we went was sold out.”
