Ryan Kennedy, a Detroit Lions supporter, recently held a press conference where he addressed an altercation with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf. Kennedy asserted he did not use any racial slurs during the incident. Referring to his experience as a loyal season ticket holder for 15 years, he emphasized, “I’ve never done that, nor have I seen it.”
Kennedy’s remarks highlighted his strong feelings against racism and animal abuse. “Those two things get me fired up, and during the game, I can assure you, I didn’t say anything of that nature.” He further explained that his family had been threatened following the incident, urging Metcalf to clarify that no slurs were directed at him. Interestingly, Kennedy referred to Metcalf by his given name, Decalin, instead of his commonly used nickname.
In what seemed like a plea for understanding, Kennedy reached out, saying, “Decalin, if you’re watching, please clarify this. My family doesn’t deserve the threats we’ve received.” He highlighted that regardless of what happened on the field, it’s tough for anyone to want those kinds of repercussions for their loved ones, adding, “I forgive you. Just want to move forward here.”
Meanwhile, Metcalf has remained silent regarding the incident. He is currently facing a two-game suspension from the NFL after he reportedly threw a punch at Kennedy, following claims that racial slurs were directed at him. CBS coverage captured the moment Metcalf reacted, grabbing Kennedy’s shirt in the heat of the moment.
