Los Angeles Lakers Under Pressure Following Tough Loss
The Los Angeles Lakers are currently navigating their second season with head coach JJ Redick and, crucially, their first full season with star guard Luka Doncic. The team is looking to bounce back from last year’s disappointing early playoff exit.
Now that we’re about a third of the way through the NBA season, the Lakers have had a mixed bag of results. They kicked off the season strong with a 15-4 record, but have since struggled with consistency. In a recent prime-time game, they fell short of coach Redick’s expectations.
On Christmas Day, the Houston Rockets handed the Lakers a significant defeat, winning 119-96. Following this loss, which marked the Lakers’ third consecutive defeat, Redick expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s professionalism and effort.
“Right now, we don’t have enough interest,” Redick stated. “And that’s what really frustrates me. We’re just not showing the care that’s needed to succeed.”
His pointed remarks come as the Lakers hold a 4-6 record in their last ten games. Struggling to narrow the gap in the second half against the Rockets, Redick highlighted the team’s failures in execution.
“The main issues today were effort and execution,” he said. “When we nail those aspects, we can be a really solid team. When we don’t, we’re just not good—and that was evident right from the start.”
Redick also warned that the upcoming practice would be uncomfortable for players as they prepare for Sunday’s game against the Sacramento Kings.
Doncic, who was the team’s top scorer with 25 points in the recent game, echoed Redick’s concerns, recognizing the need for change.
“I’m not really sure what needs to happen, but something definitely should,” he commented. “Just think about it—we lost the last three games. That’s quite alarming. This is something we need to address. We all have to put in more effort, myself included.”
