As this college football season wraps up, I’m left pondering what will truly stick in people’s minds a year, or even 20 years, from now. What’s happening right now that’s so significant that it overshadows individual achievements and points to a larger impact?
There are only a few teams outside of the 2024 Ohio State National Champions that have reached this level of importance lately.
Sure, they clinched a national championship, but their influence went beyond the game itself. When they shifted the focus from themselves to a higher purpose, it made a difference. With a record of 14-2, they performed admirably on the field and nabbed that championship title. But fast forward two decades—what will those victories mean compared to the countless individuals who chose to follow Jesus because this Ohio State football team was willing to discuss something bigger than just the sport?
Their story stands as a reminder that real victory isn’t only about what unfolds on the field. It’s about the people you touch through the chances you’re given. Everyone desires success, but what should we prioritize? Should I aim solely for personal success, or is creating a significant impact on others what truly matters? Do I want to put in my best effort for the game, or do I want to make a lasting impression on those around me?
There was something truly unique about this Ohio State team. I have a strong feeling that the positive effects of their decisions, bravery, and compassion will resonate long after they’ve hung up their jerseys.
