Trump to Meet Zelensky in Florida
President Donald Trump is set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday, in a renewed attempt to address the ongoing four-year conflict in Ukraine.
Zelensky’s visit will take place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, where Trump has recently spent a significant amount of time. Ahead of their meeting, Ukrainian officials stressed the importance of approaching negotiations with strength.
The peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have stumbled repeatedly, particularly over the determination of final territorial boundaries in any agreement.
In a message posted to X, Zelensky asserted, “Ukraine will do whatever it takes to stop this war. Our top priority is peace. To negotiate effectively, we must be strong, and for that, we need global support from Europe and the United States.”
He further explained, “In this conflict, we seek peace, and Russia appears intent on continuing the war. With the support of nations worldwide, we can unite to halt Putin’s advances—after all, we all desire the same outcome: a sustainable and normal peace.”
Zelensky warned that support for Russia from any country, including the U.S. or Europe, would only prolong the war. “There’s no other option. This poses a risk for all nations, as Russia has no intention of stopping its actions in Ukraine,” he cautioned.
The urgency in Zelensky’s words comes amid a recent uptick in Russian assaults on Kiev, including a nighttime attack that involved numerous drones and missiles. This incident, he said, showcased the “true attitude” of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In the lead-up to the meeting, Trump indicated that substantial progress had been made regarding peace negotiations with European counterparts but emphasized he would only meet with both Putin and Zelensky once a conclusive peace agreement is established.
Local authorities reported that at least one individual died, and 27 others were injured in an airstrike on the Ukrainian capital during the overnight attacks.
Trump’s stance highlights a cautious endeavor to finalize what some are calling the “last battle” towards achieving peace.
As the situation evolves, all eyes will be on this high-stakes meeting. There’s a lot on the line—an end to violence, and perhaps, a chance for a new beginning in Ukraine.
