Walz stands by his record as viral video sparks allegations of daycare fraud in Minnesota

Governor Walz Addresses Fraud Allegations After Viral Video

The office of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is responding to accusations of fraud that surfaced following a viral video of him visiting various child care centers across the state. Some of these centers allegedly received significant state funding, yet appeared to be lacking in activity.

In light of questions raised by independent journalist Nick Shirley about the video and the related allegations, the governor’s press secretary asserted that Walz has spent years combating fraud. The spokesperson emphasized that the governor has, in fact, implemented measures to enhance oversight of the state’s programs, including initiating investigations into several facilities.

“For years, the governor has worked to combat fraud and requested that the state Legislature grant him increased authority to take decisive action,” the spokesperson explained. “He has ramped up surveillance, launching investigations into specific facilities, with one already shut down.”

Investigation into Fraud Schemes

The spokesperson further noted that Walz “hired an external firm to audit payments related to high-risk programs, permanently suspended the Housing Stability Services program, introduced a new statewide program integrity officer, and supported criminal prosecutions.”

This response follows the release of a 42-minute video by Shirley, shared on various platforms, which documented visits to several daycare centers within the state, including one on Nicollet Street in Minneapolis.

In the footage, Shirley and another individual are shown at what seems to be an inactive child care facility, which has a misspelled sign reading “Quality Learning Center.” This center reportedly housed 99 children and received around $4 million in state funding.

During an appearance on Fox News’ “The Big Weekend Show,” Shirley remarked that the alleged fraud in Minnesota was “very clear” and that “even a kindergartener can tell there’s fraud going on.”

Backlash and Increased FBI Presence

Shirley also suggested that other journalists might hesitate to report on such issues due to concerns about being labeled “Islamophobic” or “racist.” He emphasized that “Fraud is fraud, and we work too hard just to pay our taxes and allow fraud to occur.”

The video generated considerable backlash, with Walz facing criticism from notable figures over the weekend, including Vice President J.D. Vance, Rep. Mike Lawler, Donald Trump Jr., and Elon Musk. Additionally, the White House amplified concerns when Education Secretary Linda McMahon labeled the situation a “stunning failure” under Walz’s leadership.

In response to the ongoing issues, FBI Director Kash Patel reported that the bureau has allocated more personnel and resources to Minnesota as part of their efforts to address large-scale fraud schemes targeting federal programs.

The video gained significant attention amid various scandals surrounding the Walz administration, particularly the alleged fraud linked to at least $1 billion in losses, primarily affecting the Twin Cities’ Somali community.
