Lawmakers Target Young Male Voters for 2026 Elections
On “Fox & Friends,” Brett Cooper, a contributor to FOX News, addressed the Democrats’ efforts to regain young male voters as the 2026 midterm elections approach. He also commented on a report regarding Vice President J.D. Vance potentially running for president in 2028.
Cooper pointed out that Democrats could realistically appeal to young men unless Republicans present a compelling message focused on affordability, similar to that of Zoran Mamdani, the new Mayor of New York City.
“Regrettably, I think there’s a chance for them to succeed,” she remarked, noting Mamdani’s recent win which boosted the economy and turned some young male voters away from Trump.
She emphasized that young people today are increasingly interested in economic issues, stating, “They want to be able to afford homes, and when the conversation shifts to affordability and rebuilding the economy, young men tend to pay attention.”
Prominent Democrats like California Rep. Eric Swalwell, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and Mamdani are making clear efforts to connect with young male voters, using engaging content such as fitness and outdoor activities in videos.
In the 2024 elections, young men posed a challenge for Democrats, whereas young women were more of a concern for Republicans. However, Mamdani’s success in the high-profile mayoral race suggests a potential uptick in support from both male and female Gen Z voters.
Cooper also indicated that while the Republican Party has seen improvements in attracting young women, they are now facing issues with young male voters who seem to be gravitating back to the left.
“We’ve done well with women, and I don’t think our strategy needs to change,” Cooper said. “But I’m more worried now about young men moving back toward the Democrats.”
At a recent event, one participant observed that about 54% of attendees were women, which could indicate a positive shift for the conservative agenda, but Cooper cautioned against overlooking young male voters in the process.
