Florida Man Arrested for Armed Robbery in Disturbing Incident

On December 23, a 24-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of robbing a meat market in Florida while armed and wearing just a mask, according to police.

Reports indicate that around 8:50 p.m. on that day, officers were dispatched to BJ’s Meat Market following a report of a robbery. Upon their arrival, police spoke with employees, confirmed that no injuries occurred, and reviewed surveillance footage. They discovered that the suspect was essentially naked, except for a mask covering his face. After gathering a description of the suspect and his path of escape, officers set up a perimeter to locate him.

Authorities executed a thorough search of the area and found items believed to be connected to the crime, including clothing along the suspect’s escape route. The Criminal Investigation Division of the Lake City Police Department arrived at the scene, collected evidence, and continued the investigation.

The suspect was identified as Kobe Watkins and was apprehended with help from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. After a medical evaluation, he was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center.

Lake City Police Chief Gerard Butler commented on the incident, calling it “disturbing.” He expressed gratitude for the quick response from law enforcement and the cooperation of the employees at the market, contributing to the prompt resolution of the situation.

According to reports, Watkins allegedly broke into a safe and stole over $1,000 from the establishment before fleeing. Employees suspected he was armed due to the cloth he had wrapped around an object in his hand. Watkins now faces charges including armed robbery, exposure of genitals, grand larceny, and criminal mischief.

This isn’t the first incident of a naked man being arrested in Florida. In November, another man was charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly walking naked in near-freezing temperatures and resisting arrest without violence.

The Lake City Police Department referred further inquiries to the same press release for additional details.
