Drone Used to Locate Missing Elderly Man in Pennsylvania
Authorities in Pennsylvania reported that police recently employed a drone with thermal imaging to locate a missing elderly man in a cold, wooded area. The Westchester Police Department (WCPD) received a request for assistance from a neighboring police department on Sunday to aid in search and rescue efforts.
Skilled pilots used the drone’s thermal imaging and spotlights to direct ground officers to the man’s location. Images shared by officials depict the thermal outline of the individual amid the dense woods.
The WCPD noted on social media that their officers with specialized drone training promptly responded to the situation. They successfully located the elderly man in a forested area and guided ground units to him.
Immediately after finding him, medical care was provided to the man. WCPD emphasized that the use of drone technology is vital for safe rescues, especially for missing seniors.
Police remarked, “This demonstrates how technology, combined with proper training, can deliver high-quality service to our community.” They highlighted the incident as part of their ongoing commitment to making communities safer.
