Rep. Mike Collins Critiques Senate Dynamics
Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.), running against Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), shared his concerns with Breitbart News about the decline of quality legislation in the U.S. Senate, referring to it as a “black hole.” During an extensive interview at Turning Point USA’s America Fest in Phoenix, Arizona, he expressed frustration with the Republican Party’s challenges in passing significant bills without securing 60 votes.
Collins noted, “I know there were about 15 executive orders in the ‘Big and Beautiful Bill,’ but they were actually in it. We need to continue to codify more.” He emphasized that the real issue lies in the Senate’s current dynamics, stating, “You can’t really get much done in the Senate unless you have 60 senators willing to end the debate.”
“We’ve sent so many good bills to the Senate, to that black hole,” he continued. “So it just goes away over there. Until we get a responsible Senate that is willing to step up the debate and approve things after debate, we have to continue to make budget adjustments to get the EO done. And we have no problem doing that.”
Some Republicans, including Trump, have suggested eliminating the filibuster to advance the “America First” agenda through simple majority votes. Collins indicated that he supports this approach but emphasized the importance of passing legislation that benefits the American people.
He cautioned, “There’s always a risk. There’s a risk if we let it go because it won’t get anything done. There’s a risk that we won’t get 60 senators. In my opinion, if we’re going to go nuclear, which we’ve already announced, I’m fine with that.” He further asserted that the priority should be to implement policies that ensure ‘America First.’
“Then we will be in power until the cows come home,” he added, highlighting his confidence in the potential outcomes.
