Kelsey Grammer’s Daughter Shares Painful Reunion Moment
Kelsey Grammer’s daughter, Greer, has opened up about a particularly hurtful comment her father made during their reunion after being estranged for twelve years. She described it as one of the “nastiest things” he could have said, which led her to “sob” when they finally connected.
Greer, now 33 and known for her role on “Awkward,” shared that at age 16, she expressed to Grammer that she didn’t want to carry his last name. “It’s always been my last name,” she said during a podcast episode of “Pretty Basic” with host Alisha Marie.
She recalled a moment where Grammer told her mother, suggesting it might be better if Greer didn’t have his last name, thinking it would make things easier for her as she grew up. Greer, reflecting on this, explained, “I think my dad probably asked my mom, and she told me about it later.”
At 19, when he confided in her about this, she felt devastated. “I started sobbing,” Greer recalled, explaining how painful it was to hear those words. She interpreted it as him saying he wouldn’t be around to support her.
Despite the hurt, Greer acknowledged that her father’s perspective may have been “fair” in some ways. “He was not wrong,” she noted, realizing that he was looking out for her in his own way.
Greer, who is the child of Grammer and ex-girlfriend Barry Buckner, mentioned their parents split when she was just four. They didn’t reconnect until she was a teenager, which has sometimes led to misunderstandings about their relationship.
Interestingly, Greer remembered details from their earlier time together before he left, but their first meeting after years apart happened while she was volunteering during community service as Miss Teen Malibu. “He came up to me and said, ‘Are you Greer?’ And I said, ‘Yes, I am,’” she recalled, adding that she immediately recognized him.
A week after that encounter, they met for lunch, marking the beginning of their reconciliation. Greer wanted to call him right away, but her mother advised her to take her time in reaching out.
Today, their relationship has improved significantly. Greer shared that while she didn’t have a trust fund, Grammer did cover her college tuition, and they now share a strong bond.
She even appeared alongside him in the second season of the “Frasier” reboot.
Grammer, who has children from multiple marriages, recently welcomed a new son with his fourth wife in 2025 and expressed how wonderful it felt to have a newborn at home.
He has reflected on his past parenting, admitting to some “neglect” of his first two children. “I’m trying to make up for it a little bit,” he said, emphasizing the chance he has as their father to improve their relationship.
