Alarming footage captured by home surveillance in Southern Nevada shows a car crash that sends a vehicle barreling through a backyard wall and soaring into the air, ultimately ejecting the driver into a private pool.
This incident reportedly occurred late on December 15 in Laughlin. The local news station indicated that the driver was speeding and didn’t stop, leading to the vehicle smashing into a concrete barrier.
The video depicts a white car twisting through the darkness mid-air. It struck the roof of a pool house before crashing down near the pool.
In the aftermath, the driver was thrown from the car and was later seen struggling to stay afloat in the water.
Cletis Reed, the homeowner, recounted hearing a massive crash that sounded “like a freight train.” He rushed outside to discover extensive damage to his backyard and a woman in his pool.
“I assumed something happened in the street; then I saw my whole backyard ruined,” Reed remarked. “Everything just exploded. The patio was in shambles, and there’s a woman floating in my pool.”
Reed noted that the driver had attempted to reach a hot tub situated near where the wall collapsed during the chaos.
“I opened the cover, thinking I needed to talk to my wife,” Reed shared. “I feel incredibly lucky to be here. If I had been in that spot, it could’ve been me.”
The driver landed in the shallow end of the pool, which according to Reed, was only waist-deep and bordered by concrete walls.
“She was lucky, and so was I,” he added.
Reed and others helped pull the driver from the water. She was awake but appeared confused and was moaning softly.
Even after about 15 minutes, Reed was still outside, speaking with police about what happened.
The positioning of the vehicle was so precarious that a crane was required to lift it out of the backyard.
Reed expressed how he had invested his retirement savings into creating a private oasis, complete with a resort-style pool.
This accident wreaked havoc on his courtyard and tainted his 25,000-gallon pool with motor oil. He estimated that repairs could run close to $300,000, and it seems likely the pool will need to be fully drained.
The driver was taken to a hospital across the state line in Arizona.
Inquiries have been made with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for additional information.
