Airline Disturbance: Passenger Charged After Alleged Assault
A passenger on a United Airlines flight exhibited erratic behavior, leading to an alleged assault on a flight attendant, causing significant disruption. Jordan Langston, 25, reportedly punched a crew member and made bizarre claims of being in a “simulation.”
The incident unfolded on a flight headed for Salt Lake City, shortly after takeoff from Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. Langston, upon rising from his seat, ran toward the front of the aircraft, flailing his arms and yelling that it was all a “simulation.”
When questioned by a flight attendant regarding his claims, he defiantly repeated, “This is the flight,” before darting towards the rear of the plane to continue his erratic behavior.
FBI Special Agent Patrick Mannion reported that Langston stepped on a crew member’s leg and shoved another after being warned that the plane would turn back if he didn’t cease his tumultuous actions.
The captain of the flight declared a Level 2 security threat, and after a period of tension, Langston eventually returned to his seat, calming down temporarily. However, about 30 minutes later, he purportedly jumped up again and began shadow boxing in the aisle, even punching a crew member in the face.
In response to his aggressive behavior, several passengers intervened, restraining him and escorting him to the back of the plane, where he would babble incoherently about death.
The flight was redirected to Eppley Field in Omaha, and Langston was removed from the aircraft and taken into custody at the Douglas County Jail. Subsequently, the flight continued to Salt Lake City International Airport.
Langston faces charges for interfering with crew and flight operations. A judge has ordered him held until trial, citing concerns over potential substance abuse and mental health issues.
