Trump Critiques Clooney on New Year’s Eve
President Donald Trump has taken aim at actor George Clooney, labeling him “an ordinary guy who constantly complains about political norms.” Trump claimed that Clooney is “not a movie star at all,” suggesting that his political views have overshadowed his acting career, which Trump described as comprised of “a few, totally mediocre movies.”
In a recent post on New Year’s Eve, Trump referred to Clooney and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, as “two of the worst political prophets of all time.” This statement followed the couple’s announcement of their new status as French citizens. Trump remarked, “Good news! George and Amal Clooney, the worst political prophets of all time, are now officially French citizens. France is sadly facing a significant crime issue due to its absolutely terrible handling of immigration, much like what we’ve seen under Sleepy Joe Biden.”
Trump didn’t hold back in critiquing Clooney further, mentioning how he had “outed” Biden after a notable debate back in July 2024. The president recalled, “Remember when Clooney dropped Joe during a fundraiser and sided with Jamala (K!)? She’s running against some of the worst governors, like Tim Walz and Gavin Newcomb, who may lead Democrats to a future defeat.”
Concluding his post, Trump derided Clooney’s film career, stating that the actor is now more recognized for his political commentary rather than his films. He emphasized that, in his view, Clooney became famous for his political stance rather than for a “handful of completely mediocre movies,” asserting that Clooney never truly was a movie star, but rather just someone who frequently bemoans political common sense.
When approached for comments, Clooney responded, “I completely agree with the current president. We have to make America great again. We’re going to start in November.” This was as Trump’s criticism follows Clooney’s recent disagreement with CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, who had claimed he was “tearing down CBS News as we speak.”
Clooney expressed disappointment towards CBS and ABC for resolving their lawsuits with Trump, suggesting they should have told him, “Go ahead and do it yourself.” Both networks reportedly paid at least $16 million to settle lawsuits initiated by Trump, and Clooney, who relocated his family to France partly to escape Hollywood culture, finds fault with the lack of resistance from these networks.
In an interview, he said, “If CBS and ABC had challenged these lawsuits and stood their ground, we might not be facing this situation in our country right now.” He acknowledged the challenging times and reflected on the hardships people face but stressed the importance of staying positive and pushing forward. Clooney also noted changes in his relationship with Trump over the years, revealing that he used to know the president quite well, even seeking his help for a medical appointment in the past.
Overall, it seems the rift between Trump and Clooney continues to evolve, with personal backgrounds and political views colliding in this ongoing narrative.
