Ed Gullane’s Campaign Experience Surges Backed by Trump
Ed Gullane, who is challenging Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), announced an impressive fundraising total of $1.2 million for the fourth quarter of 2025, as he was supported by President Donald Trump, his campaign disclosed to Breitbart News on Friday.
“These numbers really show the support Ed’s campaign has been gathering since the start,” campaign spokesperson Lance Trover stated. “President Trump backs Ed because he understands that Ed is dedicated to putting America first. He wants to collaborate with him to revive our economy, reduce taxes, and counteract woke policies.”
Gullane, a former Navy SEAL whose family operates a farm, began his campaign for the Republican nomination for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District in October. Trover mentioned that a significant portion—99%—of the donations are intended for the primary. While candidates can collect funding for both the primaries and the general election from the outset, the funds earmarked for the general cannot be utilized in the primary. This reveals strong Republican backing for ousting Massie from Congress.
Once a leading conservative figure, Massie has recently aligned with Democrats to criticize Trump and oppose various policies. Notably, he was the only Republican in the House to vote against the “Big Beautiful Bill.” He also worked with Democrats on a discharge petition that initially faced opposition from Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson but gained traction, leading to a vote on legislation aimed at releasing the “Epstein File” related to the late Jeffrey Epstein. The release of these documents is in process, with many being made public as the Department of Justice applies necessary redactions to safeguard victims. Initially, top Republicans like Trump opposed this effort, but they later supported it as it gained sufficient backing, resulting in the bill’s near-unanimous passage and Trump’s signature.
Trump’s frustration with Massie is evident, as the president has sought out a competent challenger, finding that in Gullane. In a December interview with Breitbart News on SiriusXM 125, Gullane expressed that Massie “considers every solution to be problematic.”
“The president clearly outlined his policies during the campaign. He won every battleground state and took this district by nearly a 70-30 margin,” Gullane commented about Trump’s influence in Kentucky’s 4th District.
Gullane reiterated that Massie has increasingly sided with Democrats, claiming, “Unfortunately, our representation in Washington sounds more like the Democratic Party.” Trump encouraged Gullane even before he formally entered the race, posting on Truth Social in mid-October, urging him to run.
“I hope Ed decides to take on Massey,” Trump remarked in his post. “Unlike ‘Lightweight’ Massey, who’s let us down, Captain Ed Gullane is a winner. If he runs, he has my full support. Go for it, Ed.”
Gullane’s background includes a distinguished 30-year career as a Navy SEAL officer, with multiple tenures in SEAL Team 6, ultimately achieving the rank of Captain.
In less than a full quarter since launching his campaign, Gullane has raised substantial funds, setting him up as a viable contender against Massie. If he can sustain this momentum through the first two quarters of 2026, a significant upset might be in the works before the May 19 primary.
