To start a similar fitness approach, experts suggest having a structured plan. This could involve deciding in advance what exercises to do on specific days, laying out workout clothes, preparing gear, and even booking classes ahead of time to reduce uncertainty.

Adding variety to workouts can keep them engaging and encourage consistency, Santa Maria says.

“The main concern is that it can feel overwhelming for beginners,” he warns. Too many choices can lead to decision fatigue.

Making sudden, drastic changes in intensity or workout volume can increase injury risks, particularly for older adults. However, experts point out that gradually increasing activity over time helps the body adapt.
