Kings' Russell Westbrook achieves milestone as all-time highest scoring point guard

Westbrook Surpasses Oscar Robertson in All-Time Scoring

In a recent game against the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings point guard Russell Westbrook made history by surpassing NBA icon Oscar Robertson as the all-time leading scorer among point guards. This milestone came during the fourth quarter when Westbrook executed a driving layup, bringing his career total to 26,711 points.

Despite the Kings’ loss, Westbrook had a solid performance, tallying 17 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Over his career, he has already cemented his legacy as a nine-time All-Star and holds the record for the most triple-doubles in NBA history. Just last month, he moved past Magic Johnson to claim the seventh spot on the all-time assists list.

Westbrook expressed his gratitude for this achievement, especially in relation to Magic Johnson, whom he views as a legendary figure in the sport. He commented, “I’m really blessed and grateful to the people above me for allowing me time to go out and play basketball. As for passing Magic…I’m honored. He’s a great.” It’s interesting to note that, although he initially aspired to play football, Westbrook has become a celebrated basketball figure.

Reflecting on his journey, he mentioned, “I grew up wanting to play football…just being a normal kid. But I always knew that if given the chance, I’d make the most of it.” He emphasized the importance of his platform, stating, “This is something that was given to me, not just for basketball, but to inspire others. I hope my record encourages people to achieve great things in their lives.”

Currently in his 18th NBA season, Westbrook has transitioned through various teams, starting with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the first 11 years of his career before moving to the Kings after short stints with several other franchises.
