Sen. Bernie Moreno’s Reaction to Trump’s Actions in Venezuela
Senator Bernie Moreno from Ohio remarked on Saturday that the recent arrest of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro by President Trump marks a significant turning point for Latin America. He described the nighttime operation as a move that “changed the course of Latin America for a generation.”
“By taking action in America’s self-defense and interest to dismantle Maduro’s narco-terrorist organization, he has removed a clear threat to our nation,” Moreno stated regarding Trump’s actions.
He went on to criticize the current Biden administration, claiming it failed to act when Maduro illegitimately held power in 2023. Moreno emphasized that Trump demonstrated a willingness to protect American lives.
“Maduro and his associates are directly accountable for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans, jeopardizing our national security and inciting a historic influx of criminals into our country,” he said.
Moreno highlighted that Venezuela has been a crucial route for transporting harmful substances to the U.S., aiming to harm American citizens.
Having grown up in Colombia before immigrating to the U.S. as a child, Moreno referred to the U.S. as a determined adversary of narco-terrorists while being a “partner and friend” to liberated Venezuelans.
“Mr. Maduro has been a protector of Colombian narco-terrorists, and I want them, along with anyone else in this hemisphere, to understand that if they threaten our country, they could be next,” Moreno warned.
He addressed the people of Venezuela, stating, “President Trump desires peace, and America does not wish for conflict or war with your nation. It is now your turn to decide your future and find a way to prosperity that has long felt out of reach. America is ready to support you as a partner and ally.”
Moreno concluded his statement with, “God bless America and God bless President Trump.”
In the early hours of Saturday, U.S. military forces captured Maduro, who, as the leader of the Suns Cartel, is regarded as an illegitimate dictator. Trump announced that a “massive offensive against Venezuela” had been initiated to ensure the safety of U.S. troops involved in the operation, which also apprehended Maduro’s wife, Syria Flores.
