Evangeline Lilly’s Health Update
Evangeline Lilly has kicked off the new year with unsettling news about her health.
The Ant-Man and the Wasp star revealed that she has brain damage following a serious accident in Hawaii where she lost consciousness and fell onto a rock. On January 2nd, Lilly shared this diagnosis on Instagram, informing her followers that doctors had identified her condition as a traumatic brain injury.
“The verdict is in…I have brain damage due to traumatic brain injury. While I’m relieved to know that my cognitive decline isn’t just linked to perimenopause, I’m uneasy about the challenging journey ahead to restore my cognitive abilities,” she wrote.
In a video from January 1st, the Lost alum mentioned that a brain scan revealed substantial damage. “Almost every area of the brain has reduced function,” she explained.
Despite the tough news, Lilly stated she is focused on figuring out the extent of her injuries and beginning her recovery process, even if it feels overwhelming. “But now my job is to get to the root of the issue with my doctors and start the hard work of fixing it. I’m not really looking forward to it, but I think I just need to put in the effort. And that’s alright,” she added.
This incident in Hawaii was severe, but Lilly has a history of unexplained fainting episodes. In a Substack essay from May 30th, she shared that she’s experienced episodes of fainting and disorientation since she was a child.
Lilly mentioned that doctors initially misdiagnosed her with epilepsy and later suggested hypoglycemia, yet without proper testing. “For much of my life, I’ve been living with hypoglycemia,” she wrote. However, as she matured and underwent detailed blood tests, that explanation began to falter. “Interestingly, even after a 12-hour fast, my blood sugar levels never dipped low, ruling out hypoglycemia,” she noted.
The fainting episode, particularly concerning, wasn’t fully understood, leading her to grapple with uncertainty. She disclosed that her husband, Norman Cali, remarked that she appeared lifeless during the incident.
Following the confirmation of her cognitive decline, Lilly said she intentionally slowed her pace towards the end of 2025, placing a greater emphasis on rest. This decision unexpectedly brought her a sense of peace.
“I think this has been the calmest, most restful Christmas vacation I’ve enjoyed, probably since having kids—so, fourteen years ago. That’s a positive! I feel particularly thankful and blessed to experience another day and year on this beautiful planet. This is my latest update regarding my concussion. I appreciate everyone’s concern,” she said.
