Victor Davis Hanson Recovering After Surgery

Victor Davis Hanson, a senior contributor at Daily Signal, is currently on the mend after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. This update comes from Condoleezza Rice, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and former U.S. Secretary of State.

Rice shared the news on X, saying, “Please find an update from my dear friend and colleague, Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson. He remains in our prayers.”

In his recovery statement, Hanson provided some personal insights.

“I wanted to share a brief health update. I recently underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor and am now recovering. I’m doing well and hopeful as I move forward,” he mentioned. He added, “Thank you for the many messages of support and prayers—they truly mean more than I can say. As I focus on recovery, I may not be able to respond to everyone, but please know how grateful I am.”

Hanson is the Martin and Illie Anderson senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and also holds a distinguished fellowship at Hillsdale College. He previously announced that he needed to undergo a major medical procedure.

“I don’t want to talk about my own problems, but I’ve had people call me and say, ‘You don’t look well, you’re hoarse, or you’re coughing.’ It’s been a nine-month journey because the issue I faced was rare and tricky to diagnose, so it’s really just one of those things,” Hanson explained.

After a recent biopsy, he opted for surgery, which will put a pause on his work, but hopefully just temporarily.

“I’ll be fine. At least I’ll do my best for everybody,” Hanson expressed. “I think I have an obligation to all our readers and listeners who send wonderful letters with support and well wishes; they are genuinely kind people.”

While he recovers, his podcast, “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” is airing pre-recorded episodes from December. Co-host Jack Fowler will continue to lead the show during this time.
