Aaron Rodgers Could Return to NFL in 2026
The possibility of Aaron Rodgers making a comeback to the NFL in 2026 isn’t entirely off the table.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, ahead of Sunday’s games, mentioned that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Rodgers returned to Pittsburgh next season.
This offseason, Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Steelers, which has led many to speculate that this could be his final season in the league. However, Rapoport suggests there might be another chapter in Rodgers’ career.
According to Rapoport, “Aaron Rodgers started the season believing this would probably be his last in the NFL, yet things have been going well. He’s really enjoyed his time, and the Steelers feel the same about him. This week, he seemed to consider that maybe it won’t be his last season after all. I think he might have an opportunity to return, perhaps one or two more times. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Pittsburgh is still in play. They might be searching for a young quarterback, but they’ll need someone in the interim as well.”
This season, Rodgers has thrown for over 3,000 yards and has recorded 23 touchdown passes with the Steelers.
Last week, he didn’t shy away from hinting at a potential return when he spoke to reporters, expressing how much he values his time in Pittsburgh.
He noted, “Once the season is over, I’ll be a free agent, so if I still want to play, I might have a couple of options. I mean, not a ton, but if I decide to keep going, there could be one or two paths. This experience has been incredibly enjoyable, and the people in Pittsburgh have treated me wonderfully on and off the field. It’s been even better than what I anticipated.”
That said, it’s likely the 42-year-old is quite focused on the present as he gears up for a significant game on Sunday Night Football.
The Steelers are in a must-win situation against the Ravens to secure the division title and a playoff spot.
This meeting is the second time these AFC North rivals will clash in Pittsburgh; the first matchup on December 7 saw the Steelers triumph 27-22 on the road.
In that game, Rodgers completed 23 of 34 passes, totaling 284 yards along with one touchdown.
