Jets conclude season by establishing two dismal NFL records

Jets End Season on a Low Note

The New York Jets have been the subject of much mockery, but their current situation might take the cake.

Ending their season with yet another defeat, the Jets suffered a crushing 35-8 loss to the Buffalo Bills. This particular game was notable for its embarrassment; it marked the first instance in NFL history where a team lost five straight games by at least 23 points. They hadn’t faced such a streak since 1972, which is a long time, right? The point differential was a staggering -134, with an average loss margin of 26.8 points.

This defeat pushed the Jets to 14 losses for the season, a dismal achievement previously reached only by coach Rich Kotite in 1995 and Adam Gase in 2020.

What really tops off this unfortunate campaign is that the Jets managed to finish the season without a single interception. Yes, you heard that right—an NFL first. Earlier this season, the San Francisco 49ers had set a different record by not selecting a quarterback in 15 straight games, but the Jets have now outdone that with their unique predicament.

The Jets faced a grim reality under head coach Aaron Glenn, recording their worst performance in a first season. With three different quarterbacks taking the helm, Brady Cook stepped in late in the season, as Tyrod Taylor was sidelined with an injury and Justin Fields found himself on the bench.

During the trade deadline, the Jets offloaded Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams for future draft capital. Fortunately for them, those trades were with the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys—two teams that missed the playoffs. This means the second-round picks (No. 1 from the Colts and No. 2 from Dallas) could prove beneficial. Currently, they also hold the No. 2 draft pick.

But now, it falls to general manager Darren Mousey to maximize those picks’ potential. Can Coach Glenn guide the Jets to better days ahead? That’s something many fans are uncertain about.
