During the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship’s first round on Saturday, Charlie Woods, son of golf superstar Tiger Woods, had a close call when a recovery shot nearly struck him in the face on the 11th hole.
While his parents, Tiger and Elin Nordegren, looked on, Charlie attempted a shot from under a tree at Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida. Unfortunately, the ball hit a root, causing it to bounce back toward him. According to reports, he had to drop his club and instinctively shield his face to avoid injury.
Fortunately, Charlie managed to recover from the mishap, eventually hitting the green and sinking a long putt for par.
Tiger couldn’t help but tease his son, saying, “That’s a hell of a shot,” while sharing a lighthearted moment about the incident.
As the tournament progressed, Charlie found himself in 22nd place at three over par, having shot a 73 on Saturday and a 72 on Sunday, showing resilience after a rocky start.
He’s gradually making a name for himself in a sport that his father revolutionized, carving out his own journey amidst high expectations.
Currently ranked 13th in the United States Junior Golf Association, Woods has also qualified for the U.S. First Team.
This marks his first time participating in this tournament this year, following a successful season where he helped his school team clinch the state championship in November.
The Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, a tournament won by Tiger himself in 1991, will continue until Tuesday, with the winner to be revealed after the event concludes.
