U.S. Military Captures Venezuelan Leader Nicolas Maduro
The Trump administration’s operation to seize Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro has been described as a “masterpiece of precision” by Navy Secretary John Phelan, who highlighted the impressive capabilities of the U.S. military.
Phelan remarked, “You really don’t want to interfere with the U.S. military,” during an appearance on “Sunday Night in America.” He emphasized the significance of naval forces, noting, “[It shows] the importance of naval ships, something the President is keenly aware of and has stressed. We’re committed to constructing top-tier vessels and ensuring our Marines and Sailors have the resources they need for operations like this.”
Maduro was apprehended by U.S. military forces on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking, and he was brought to New York shortly after the operation. This event has sparked debates among members of both the Democratic and Republican parties about its legality and the potential implications for Venezuela.
This operation followed several months of efforts aimed at disrupting alleged narco-terrorism activities linked to the country, including strikes against suspected drug traffickers in Caribbean waters.
Phelan described the mission as “couldn’t have been more successful,” emphasizing President Trump’s willingness to act decisively when necessary. He acknowledged that Trump had offered Maduro several chances for resolution, but the dictator ultimately had to face U.S. military force.
“I think some of our adversaries have seen that mission and recognized the level of complexity and coordination involved. It’s a master class in precision,” Phelan noted. He reiterated the caution that messing with the U.S. military is unwise.
Maduro, alongside his wife, Cilia Flores, is set to be arraigned in federal court in New York on Monday.
