Trump Quotes ‘No One is Above the Law’ After Walz Withdraws
In an interesting turn of events, President Donald Trump echoed the phrase “No one is above the law,” which has often been directed at him by the Democratic Party. This came shortly after Democratic Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota announced he would not run for re-election amidst a significant fraud scandal affecting the state.
On Monday, Trump took to Truth Social to express his thoughts, stating, “Governor Walz destroyed Minnesota, but I think Gavin Newsom, J.B. Pritzker, Kathy Hochul, and others have done even worse jobs. No one is above the law!” His post sparked interest, considering the political landscape.
This statement followed Walz’s announcement about stepping back from the race for a third term as governor. He initially won the governor’s seat in 2018 and had been active in campaigning alongside former Vice President Kamala Harris as her running mate for the 2024 elections.
“After thinking about this with my family and team over the holidays, I’ve realized I can’t fully commit to a campaign,” Walz shared in a statement. “Every moment spent protecting my political interests takes away from defending the people of Minnesota from criminals and those who exploit our differences.”
Calls for Resignations from GOP Leaders
In light of the ongoing scandal, some GOP leaders, including Kevin McCarthy, have argued that the “entire Democratic administration” in Minnesota should resign.
Recent investigations in Minnesota have revealed a massive fraud operation linked to the state’s large Somali community, which dates back to 2022. Allegations include a major scheme related to COVID-19 involving fraudulent food and housing programs, child care centers, and Medicaid services.
The estimated financial damages could surpass $1 billion, and local officials suggest the total may even grow to $9 billion.
Trump’s invocation of “no one is above the law” has a particular resonance given its use against him during his legal troubles. For years, Democratic leaders, including Joe Biden, have utilized the phrase as Trump faced various charges. After one of Trump’s court rulings, Biden remarked, “No one is above the law.”
Trump has frequently dismissed the charges against him as politically motivated efforts by Democrats to undermine his chances in the upcoming 2024 election.
In previous political dynamics, Democrats have emphasized accountability in their discussions regarding Trump’s actions. For instance, in 2019, then-Senate Speaker Nancy Pelosi articulated, “Everyone wants the president to be held accountable,” reiterating the belief that no one, including the president, is above the law.
As the scandal continues to unfold in Minnesota, Trump remains confident that the situation will lead to substantial ramifications for Walz and his administration. “Minnesota’s corrupt governor may resign before his term ends,” Trump suggested in a recent post, predicting that the investigation will reveal a group of highly dishonest people.
Walz has acknowledged responsibility for the fraudulent activities, stating he implemented measures over the summer to halt some illegal payments and referred cases for prosecution. However, he has also claimed that the figures surrounding the scandal have been overstated by Republicans.
In a December press conference, Walz remarked, “This is on my watch, I’m responsible for it, and more importantly, I’m the one to fix it.”
While Fox Digital reached out to Walz’s office for comments on Trump’s statements, there has been no immediate reply.
