Frantic Police Chase In Texas Ends with Arrest
A military-style tractor-trailer, adorned in camouflage, led Texas police on a chaotic pursuit lasting 75 minutes that was recorded on camera Sunday night. The driver allegedly fled after causing a crash.
During the wild chase, which involved colliding with at least ten other vehicles, the driver reportedly attempted to hit multiple police cars. Authorities detained the individual after deploying gas.
In a dramatic video captured by a bystander, the truck can be seen emitting sparks and smoke from a blown tire as police chase it down. The incident began around 10 p.m. when an off-duty officer witnessed the truck crash into another vehicle and then speed away.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office quickly identified the distinctive vehicle, which they described as a military tractor-trailer without a license plate.
After calling for backup, officers soon spotted the truck and attempted to pull it over. However, the driver, later identified as 53-year-old Omar Moreno, refused to stop, leading them on a lengthy chase through Harris County and parts of Houston. Police deployed multiple spike strips in an effort to halt the truck. At one point, the truck came to a brief stop, and a deputy fired a shot into it.
In spite of visible damage, Moreno kept driving until he eventually stopped on the Eastex Freeway near Little York.
SWAT teams from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded and apprehended Moreno, who was incapacitated using tear gas.
Chief of Staff Tommy Diaz informed reporters, “We deployed gas. It worked. We have a suspect in custody. He is a 53-year-old Hispanic male.” He added that there were no injuries from gunfire and assured that the community was no longer in danger.
Authorities are still investigating the origins of the vehicle, its lack of a license plate, and the circumstances that led to the initial incident. Moreno now faces charges of aggravated assault and evading arrest.
Fortunately, no officers or civilians were reported injured during the chase.
