Vandal Arrested at Vice President’s Home
A man armed with a hammer was arrested for breaking several windows at Vice President J.D. Vance’s residence in Cincinnati. The suspect, identified as William DeFoor, 26, is said to belong to a well-known billionaire family and has recently adopted the name “Julia.”
Police reported that DeFoor attempted to break into the vice president’s home around midnight on Monday, causing damage to four windows. At the time of the incident, the Vances were not in Ohio, having moved to Washington, D.C., after the inauguration.
There is some ambiguity regarding DeFoor’s gender identity; while he has been posting as Julia DeFour, police referred to him as William and designated him as male. His mugshot reveals a distinct look — a messy mullet and lifeless expression.
DeFoor’s father, also named William, is a prominent pediatric urologist and a Harvard alum. He has spent decades practicing in Cincinnati and is a professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
The family resides in a $1.3 million home in the affluent Hyde Park area of the city. Federal records indicate that DeFoor contributed thousands to Kamala Harris’ unsuccessful 2024 presidential campaign and has consistently supported Democratic candidates, donating over $5,000 to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in their respective 2020 and 2024 runs.
His Facebook page shows that he previously advocated for a federal assault weapons ban in response to the shooting at Uvalde Elementary School.
After graduating from Summit Country Day School in 2018, where he was considered a promising candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, DeFoor seems to have struggled in the years since. He attended the University of Cincinnati College of Music for two years before reportedly dropping out in 2020. He mentioned earlier this year that he’s now attending Cincinnati State Technical Community College.
DeFoor’s mental health issues are concerning; he has a prior conviction for vandalism related to a local interior design firm, for which he received a two-year mental health treatment sentence instead of traditional punishment, as indicated by court documents.
In April 2023, he faced charges for trespassing at UC Health’s psychiatric and emergency services. Initially held on a $10,000 bail, a judge declared him mentally incompetent to stand trial, leading to the dismissal of the charges in November 2017.
Currently, DeFoor faces charges of obstruction of public business, criminal damage or endangerment, trespassing, and property damage, according to records from the Hamilton County jail. His first court appearance is set for Tuesday.
