Texas Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett reacted strongly to the Supreme Court’s recent decision to uphold the state’s new congressional districts, describing it as a “fuck you.” In a video shared on her YouTube account, she criticized the alleged efforts by former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party to manipulate the system through redistricting ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Crockett stated, “It’s clear that President Trump is still collaborating with the state legislature, the state senate, and the governor’s office to rig the system.” She expressed approval for states like Indiana and California, saying they are standing up against such actions.
She also commended a judge for crafting a lengthy opinion that condemned the developments in Texas and submitted it for Supreme Court review, suggesting that the situation is a cause for concern moving forward.
In December, the Supreme Court ordered that Governor Greg Abbott’s redistricted districts remain in place for the upcoming November election. These new House districts could potentially add as many as five Republican seats.
Interestingly, the redistricting could displace Crockett from her current district, which may have influenced her decision to enter the race for the Senate right after the Supreme Court’s ruling.
In light of Texas’ new congressional map, California Governor Gavin Newsom proposed a voting plan aimed at creating five additional Democratic-leaning congressional districts. Meanwhile, in December, the Republican-controlled Indiana Senate declined to vote on a new map that would have added two more GOP seats.
Crockett expressed her belief that some decisions made by the Supreme Court appear unjust, saying, “I feel like there are definitely certain rulings that were unfairly obtained.” She argued for reforms in the Supreme Court, based on her involvement with the 2024 Court Reform Task Force, which suggested changes like term limits and court expansion.
“To really bolster our democracy, we need to start by reinforcing our checks and balances,” she asserted, emphasizing the importance of reforming the Supreme Court.
