Arizona Cardinals Receive Criticism for Birthday Post Amid Coaching Change

The Arizona Cardinals are under fire on social media after sharing a birthday message for former head coach Jonathan Gannon, who was let go just a day later. Gannon, who celebrated his 43rd birthday on Sunday, received a cheerful “Happy Birthday, JG!” from the team on X.

However, the very next day, the organization announced his firing.

One comment on the post read, “Happy birthday! My present is…you’re fired.” Another user pointed out the poor timing, stating, “Terrible job posting this before firing him the next day.” Someone else even suggested the social media team’s approach was questionable, labeling it “elite level trolling.”

Gannon’s Dismissal After Tough Season

Gannon’s tenure with the team ended following a 37-20 defeat against the Los Angeles Rams, marking their ninth straight loss of the season.

“Jonathan is extremely smart, motivated, passionate, intelligent, and a great coach,” remarked Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill in a press conference. He added that while Gannon improved the team, the record this year was a significant concern. “Wins and losses say everything—especially this year. We felt like we were going in the wrong direction, so we needed to change direction.”

Gannon concluded his time with the Cardinals with a disappointing record of 15 wins and 36 losses.
