Top 5 head coaching choices for the Baltimore Ravens following John Harbaugh's dismissal

Ravens Fire Head Coach John Harbaugh

In an unexpected decision, the Baltimore Ravens have let go of Head Coach John Harbaugh after 18 seasons. Harbaugh, who guided the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2012, boasts a record of 193 wins, placing him as the 12th winningest coach in NFL history. However, despite this impressive resume, he and two-time MVP Lamar Jackson couldn’t secure a playoff spot this season, ultimately leading to his dismissal.

The Ravens headed into the 2025 season as favorites for the Super Bowl, yet they finished with an 8-9 record, falling short of the playoffs. With Harbaugh out, various teams might pursue him, even those that already have their head coach in place. The big question now is: what direction will the Ravens take after nearly two decades with the same leadership? There’s definitely a need for offensive innovation, and, naturally, a more consistent defense would help as well.

Potential Candidates

Brian Flores, Vikings Defensive Coordinator

At the season’s outset, the Ravens’ defense struggled significantly, plagued by injuries and lackluster performances. They did improve, but it wasn’t up to the traditional Ravens standard. Numerous defensive-minded coaches could be candidates, and Flores stands out for his ability to plan robust defenses and apply pressure on quarterbacks. His addition could shift the Ravens’ defense into a more aggressive stance, with a solid group to work with. Lamar Jackson doesn’t need a traditional QB guru to help him become better; if he can activate his defense effectively, close games could turn in their favor.

Clint Kubiak, Seahawks Offensive Coordinator

Even with a top-tier quarterback like Lamar Jackson, the Ravens have yet to reach the Super Bowl. Jackson, despite still being relatively young, carries quite a few injuries that have taken their toll this season. He found himself running less due to these issues, which hampered offensive productivity. Kubiak has shown potential against the Seahawks’ offense; it’ll be interesting to see how he could utilize Jackson’s skills.

Kliff Kingsbury, Former Commanders Offensive Coordinator

Kingsbury has stirred up debate with his coaching tactics in Arizona, particularly during his time with Kyler Murray. Still, he managed to lead the Commanders and rookie Jaden Daniels to the NFC Championship Game last season. With Daniels sidelined this year and Marcus Mariota taking over, the Commanders’ offense still performed admirably. If the Ravens think he can elevate their offense to a higher standard, he might find himself in the running.

Kevin Stefanski, Former Browns Head Coach

Stefanski will no doubt attract interest after his departure, but would the Ravens consider hiring someone from within their division? The rivalry could complicate matters. Still, if they’re after a strong offensive strategist who has handled the pressures of being a head coach, Stefanski could be a solid choice. Personally, I think Ravens fans might find some comfort in having him onboard.

Mike LaFleur, Rams Offensive Coordinator

LaFleur, who is currently the offensive coordinator for the Rams, is someone to keep an eye on. His brother’s coaching tree has shown fruitful results in the NFL, and stepping into Harbaugh’s shoes would be a notable challenge. There’s clearly a desire from the Ravens to tap into McVay’s coaching legacy.
