Travis Kelce Discusses Future with Chiefs

Travis Kelce expressed that he and the Kansas City Chiefs are currently aligned on his future, at least for the time being.

On a recent episode of the “New Heights” podcast, the three-time Super Bowl-winning tight end shared that he has had conversations with the team regarding his playing future. He is contemplating retirement following the Chiefs’ disappointing elimination from the playoff picture.

“I’ve talked with some folks at the facility during exit meetings, and they understand where I stand now,” said the 36-year-old Kelce.

“The love for this game is still alive in me, and I doubt I’ll ever lose it. I mean, it’s definitely a tough situation, but as soon as my body bounces back and I feel good about hitting the field and running again, I think I’ll jump right back in. So, right now, I guess I’ll find clarity once everything calms down.”

Kelce admitted to feeling a bit embarrassed about the Chiefs finishing 6-11 and missing the playoffs. He plans to focus on “being human” by spending quality time with friends and family.

“I just want to kick back and enjoy life a little since I’ve trained my body so hard for football. I love playing and the physical side of it. There’s something unique about feeling the toll of a season… just being a normal person for a while, maybe a few weeks or even a month, before contemplating my next steps in football.”

Excitingly, Kelce and his fiancée, Taylor Swift, who got engaged last August after two years together, are reportedly planning their wedding for this summer.

His older brother, Jason Kelce, who retired after the 2024 season following a successful 13-year run with the Eagles, has asked Travis to honor him in some way.

“It’s been a challenging season,” Travis reflected. “My teammates had it tough too, considering we were 1-5. [Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes] suffered a season-ending torn ACL against the Chargers in Week 15.”

“Looking back, a lot of our players ended the season in rough shape. It’s disheartening after achieving so much and holding high expectations for ourselves and the team. You naturally try to analyze what went wrong and how to improve.”

He added, “It feels the same as always when you’re trying to navigate through something you adore, like playing football. Thanks to everyone who showed up and put in their best effort to close out the season on a high note.”

Kelce mentioned feeling embarrassed about the Chiefs missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014. “I feel a bit humiliated, but you’re helping me feel better. I’m still a huge fan of this sport and will definitely watch the playoffs,” he remarked.

“January will be about enjoying time with friends and family instead of focusing on playoff strategies.”

It’s possible that Kelce’s last game could have been a road loss against the Raiders on January 4th.
