President Donald Trump sent a clear and direct message on Wednesday to whoever might hire former Ravens coach John Harbaugh: “Hire him” and “Hurry.”
In a brief post on Truth Social, he expressed his support for Harbaugh, who was surprisingly let go by Baltimore after 18 seasons, a significant decision announced just a day earlier.
Trump wrote, “Hire John Harbaugh, quick. He and his brother are total winners!!! President DJT,” referencing Harbaugh’s brother, Jim, who is currently the coach of the Chargers.
The Ravens decided to part ways with Harbaugh following a disappointing season where they finished 8-9 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti commented on the firing, saying, “This was an incredibly difficult decision, given the incredible 18 years we spent together and the deep respect I have for John as a coach and, most importantly, as a great man of integrity.”
He continued to highlight Harbaugh’s contributions, saying he brought Super Bowl titles to Baltimore and was a strong leader in the community. Bisciotti emphasized that their goal remains winning championships and maintaining high performance for their fans.
After his dismissal, Harbaugh expressed a mix of disappointment and gratitude for his long tenure in Baltimore. He remarked, “I was hoping for a different kind of message someday on my last day here.” He added appreciation for the opportunity he received, acknowledging the challenges he faced.
At 63, Harbaugh is currently seen as a prime coaching candidate, with interest from seven different teams. However, there’s chatter around the Dolphins, who might be a lurking contender without a current opening.
The Ravens are now on a growing list of teams that need to fill head coaching vacancies, joining the Giants, Raiders, Falcons, Titans, Cardinals, and Browns.
The Giants, who let go of coach Brian Daboll mid-season, are set to interview several candidates, including former Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy.
As part of the hiring process, NFL teams must interview at least two minority candidates for head coach openings, as mandated by the Rooney Rule.
Interestingly, prior to the 2025 season, both Harbaugh brothers met with Trump at the White House, and John previously visited former President Obama after winning the 2013 Super Bowl against his brother’s 49ers.
