Texas Attorney General Joins Fight Against Hamas

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has come on board with the U.S. legal efforts aimed at Hamas and its affiliated organizations, emphasizing the need to “dismantle and annihilate” the group and its domestic backers.

On Tuesday, his office confirmed that Paxton is part of a coalition of states submitting amicus briefs to support victims affected by the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, as well as civilians who are now at risk due to ongoing terror activities. This legal brief backs claims made under federal anti-terrorism regulations.

The filing shows support for organizations like American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP). They referenced a declaration made shortly after the attack, where both groups described their actions as part of a “unified intifada” directed by Hamas.

According to Paxton’s office, current U.S. law permits victims of terrorist acts to seek accountability not just from foreign organizations but also from domestic entities accused of aiding such terrorism.

Paxton declared, “Extremist Islamic terrorist organizations like Hamas must be destroyed and dismantled, including their domestic affiliates.” He further remarked on the complexities of terrorism, stating that “Terrorism relies on complex networks and intermediaries,” advocating for legal action against those who knowingly provide support.

The attorney general’s office presents this legal move as a wider strategy to tackle threats posed by Islamic extremist movements, reaffirming his previous comments about the designation of certain groups as foreign terrorist organizations. This comes as a lawsuit continues in Virginia and Iowa regarding these matters.

Recently, Paxton made headlines by labeling Islamist terrorist organizations as fundamentally anti-American, calling for the prevention of potentially dangerous individuals entering Texas.
