Trump Withdraws the U.S. from IPCC

President Donald Trump has recently signed an executive order to officially pull the United States out of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), an organization often labeled as “alarmist” regarding climate change. This agency was integral to the framework of the United Nations (UN) Paris Climate Agreement, which Trump had voiced support for in January 2025.

The IPCC has a history of making what some consider overly alarming predictions. For example, it once asserted that Himalayan glaciers would vanish by 2035, a claim it later retracted due to insufficient scientific backing.

Tommy Piggott from the State Department criticized the IPCC, stating that these “unaccountable” international organizations employ alarmist language to influence public policy across the globe, including in the U.S. He argued that they impose arbitrary standards that could limit American energy independence and industrial growth, while not exerting the same pressure on major polluters like China and India.

The IPCC has been a strong supporter of the Paris Agreement, which aims to keep global temperature rise below 1.5 degrees Celsius. One of its strategies involves transitioning from traditional energy sources to greener alternatives. This shift has notably increased Europe’s reliance on Russian gas, potentially jeopardizing its lead over China in terms of energy production.

Interestingly, despite the commitments made under this climate agreement, global emissions have barely changed in the decade since it was established.

Moreover, the IPCC has also shown interest in broader social issues, such as diversity, equity, and inclusion. They launched initiatives like a “Gender Action Team” aimed at enhancing gender balance and addressing related concerns within various organizations.

Piggott further stated that the views of individuals from what he calls this “fake organization” are often used to back measures deemed as part of the Green New Deal, alongside attempts to heavily regulate industries under the guise of climate change.
