Nets spoil Egor Demin's standout performance in last-second OT defeat to Magic

Banchero’s Late Heroics Steal Victory from Nets

In a stunning turn of events, Paolo Banchero clinched the game with a buzzer-beater, overshadowing Egor Demin’s heroics. The Brooklyn Nets faced a heart-wrenching 104-103 overtime loss against the Magic in front of 16,916 shocked fans at Barclays Center.

Michael Porter Jr. shone brightly, racking up 34 points, including a career-high eight 3-pointers. Demin really came alive, scoring all 18 of his points in the fourth quarter and overtime. His clutch 3-pointer tied the game with just four seconds left in regulation, and a go-ahead shot seemed to seal the win for the Nets in overtime.

Just when it looked like victory was in reach for the Nets, who had rallied from an 18-point deficit, Banchero made the decisive shot at the end.

The Magic star ended the game with an impressive 30 points, alongside 14 rebounds and six assists.

Despite trailing significantly, the Nets managed to pull off an incredible comeback. They led 87-73 after a bucket from Banchero with just under six minutes left in the fourth. A powerful 20-6 run allowed them to end regulation tied.

Demin’s first basket put the Nets ahead 91-88, and Ziare Williams—making a rare start—helped narrow the deficit further. However, an offensive basket interference call against Dayron Sharpe complicated matters.

The call was upheld after review, allowing Tristan da Silva to score a free dunk with mere seconds left, putting Brooklyn in a challenging spot. Sharpe, however, quickly redeemed himself by grabbing an important offensive rebound and assisting Demin for a key 3-pointer that tied the game.

In overtime, Demin hit a crucial 3-pointer with just over a minute to go, giving the Nets a brief lead. But, Banchero responded with a dunk from Wendell Carter, swinging the momentum back to the Magic.

Demin thought he had secured the win with his final score—until Banchero snatched the spotlight away.

Following the loss to the 76ers, the Nets remained in fifth place for the lottery standings, now two games behind Washington.

Brooklyn is currently a half-game ahead of Utah and also just above Charlotte, after their recent loss to the Raptors.

In other news, the Nets are reportedly finalizing contracts with both Tyrese Martin and Jalen Wilson before the salary guarantee deadline on Wednesday. Since their contracts were non-guaranteed, Brooklyn needed to make decisions quickly to avoid committing to full-season salaries unnecessarily.
