F1 2026: Updates on car, design, and team announcements before the new season

Upcoming Changes in the 2026 F1 Season

The 2025 F1 season may feel recent, but the 2026 season is approaching quickly and promises to be quite different. With two new teams entering—Audi taking over Sauber and Cadillac as the 11th team—there’s a wave of new technical regulations set to reshape the landscape of the sport significantly.

This suggests that the next season will be a learning experience for drivers, teams, and fans alike.

The introduction of these new regulations means F1 will host three pre-season testing sessions. The first will be held behind closed doors in Barcelona later this month, followed by two more in Bahrain in February.

Consequently, teams will unveil their liveries earlier than usual. Here’s what to expect:

Red Bull and Racing Bulls: January 15th

The schedule kicks off with Red Bull and Racing Bulls. They will debut their design at an event in Detroit in partnership with their new engine supplier, Ford. This event will also introduce the new driver lineup. Arvid Lindblad is stepping in for Hiroki Tsunoda alongside Liam Lawson, while Izak Hajjar gets promoted to team up with Max Verstappen for the 2026 season.

Next on the list? Haas, now rebranded as TGR Haas, with Toyota Gazoo Racing as their new title sponsor. Originally, Haas was set to showcase the VF-26 on January 23rd, but they moved the announcement up to avoid clashing with events from Alpine and Ferrari on the same day.

It’s worth noting that while Audi is taking over Sauber and is not an entirely new team, they will officially join the grid during a launch in Berlin on January 20th. Recently, Audi achieved a significant milestone—they ignited their power unit for the first time at their Hinwil plant in December 2025. This event represented a transition from design to making the project a reality.

The next team to reveal its 2026 design will be Mercedes, showcasing the W17 on January 22nd. They will hold an online launch event on February 2nd with team principal Toto Wolff and drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. There’s chatter around the paddock suggesting that Mercedes could dominate under the new regulations, but, well, we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out on the track.

Ferrari is another team planning to unveil its design on January 23rd. After a challenging 2025 season where Lewis Hamilton secured just one win, the Scuderia is hoping to revitalize itself. Ferrari finished fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, marking a tough year where Hamilton missed the podium entirely for the first time in his career.

On January 23rd, a fresh chapter begins for Alpine as they transition to a customer team utilizing Mercedes power units for the upcoming year. If the speculation around Mercedes’ power unit holds, Alpine might be poised to kick off the 2026 season on the right foot after a difficult 2025.

Williams plans to unveil the FW48 livery on February 3rd. Meanwhile, the new kids on the block, Cadillac, promote themselves as an All-American team. They’re even planning a Super Bowl ad for their debut—what a way to make an entrance!

Aston Martin will follow with the debut of the AMR26 the day after. This announcement has generated a lot of excitement because this marks the first design from renowned engineer Adrian Newey since he joined the team in March 2025 after a long stint with Red Bull.

As for McLaren? Well, they haven’t confirmed any release date yet. The defending champions of the constructors’ and drivers’ titles, Lando Norris, still has some surprises up his sleeve.
