California mayor known for antisemitic views not reprimanded

The mayor of Richmond, California, Eduardo Martinez, who has a track record of sharing anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, was released from accountability on Tuesday after city council members voted against charging him amid growing public outrage.

Martinez, affiliated with the far-left Democratic Socialists of America, faced censure in a 5-2 vote weeks after posting offensive claims about the Bondi Beach terrorist attack being a “false flag” operation and alleging anti-Semitism from Israel.

A Jewish advocacy group in the Bay Area is now calling for his resignation, emphasizing his spread of conspiracy theories related to the tragic attack in Sydney, Australia.

Some city council members expressed frustration, stating they hadn’t had the opportunity to thoroughly review the resolution, which upset those advocating for the censure.

“Simply not having read the resolution yet doesn’t change our duty to be accountable to the community,” noted Councilwoman Jamelia Brown, who co-sponsored the motion.

Brown further remarked, “If you live in Richmond, you’re aware of what’s happening. Everyone knows.”

The resolution is set to be reconsidered during the meeting on January 20th.

Even though the vote didn’t pass, over 100 residents shared their dissatisfaction and frustration regarding the mayor’s lack of consequences.

The city council meeting saw divisions, with some anti-Israel advocates showing support for Martinez. One speaker remarked, “Complaining about feelings regarding reposting is white supremacy.”
