Discussions Between NYC Mayor and Homeland Security Unproductive
Recent discussions involving New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani, the NYPD, and the Department of Homeland Security appear to have not yielded positive results.
During a press conference, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that while Mamdani and President Trump had a “productive conversation,” she could not extend that sentiment to the mayor’s communications with the department. “I look forward to the mayor’s cooperation in removing criminal elements, especially gang members and terrorist organizations, from New York City,” Noem said. She noted that interactions between the Mayor’s Office and Homeland Security have not been fruitful, expressing hope for future collaboration.
Gunshot Incident Ignites Protests
Mamdani has accused police of murder following an ICE-related shooting in Minneapolis, which authorities claim was in self-defense. Although the incident happened several states away, it sparked anti-ICE protests in New York City. In a statement on his campaign platform, Mamdani said, “This morning, ICE agents killed a woman in Minneapolis, the latest horror in a year filled with brutality. Just as ICE attacks our neighbors across America, it is an attack on all of us. New York stands with immigrants today and every day after.”
Noem Critiques Mamdani’s Comments
In response to recent remarks from Mamdani and others, Noem expressed concern about the provocative language used by elected leaders. She suggested that such rhetoric may encourage violence. “We have a responsibility to state the facts and enforce the law,” she said, adding that the mayor’s support for lawbreakers is troubling.
Noem also accused Mamdani of favoring illegal immigrants over those simply seeking the American dream. Fox News Digital has attempted to contact Mamdani and other officials for further comments.
